Mold & Tooling Production Process

1. Custom Mold Tooling Design

a. DFM for customer approval;
b. 2D/3D modeling mold design;
c. CNC programing design.

2. Mold Material Procurement

Mold material preparation include steel block for core and cavity inserts, copper electrodes for EDM, mold based and off the shelf components.

3. CNC Machining the Mold

The process starts with both rough and finish CNC machining, to make the cavity, core, and lifter/slider. The copper blocks for EDM are also machined at the same times.

4. Electrical Discharge Machining

The electrical discharge machining (EDM) aims to achieve certain geometries like texture or complex internal features that are difficult or cimpossible to make with a CNC machine.

5. Polishing and Assembly

Some precision grinding is done on the plastic injection mold tooling components to ensure meet tight tolerances, and then mold the right finish. Finally assemble the mold components together correctly.

6. Samples and Necessary Improvement

First made T0 parts to inspect quality and indicate if any adjustments needed. The next parts to be shot are the T1 parts, which are oftenly send to customer for checking, and improvement should be done if necessary.
